The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a death which has been ruled a homicide which occurred in Southeast D.C.
On Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at approximately 2:40pm, officers responded to the unit block of 18th Street Southeast for reports of an unconscious person. Officers discovered an adult male unconscious and not breathing in the hallway of a building at that location. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim was pronounced deceased.
The decedent was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. On January 3rd, an autopsy determined the victim’s cause of death was a gunshot wound, and their manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The decedent was identified as 48-year-old Eugene Jefferson, of Southeast, DC.
