Peter Frenzel serves as an Inspector and Deputy Director of the Disciplinary Review Division. In his capacity as Deputy Director, Inspector Frenzel manages sworn and professional staff members of the division and is responsible for authoring complex disciplinary documents. Inspector Frenzel collaborates with the Director of Disciplinary Review Division to provide weekly updates to the Bureau on the progress of all current cases and is responsible for holding disciplinary resolution conferences with sworn and professional staff members to resolve matters of discipline. Inspector Frenzel also assisted in the implementation of the new disciplinary process after the ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement in 2022. He was promoted to Deputy Director in September of 2022.
Inspector Frenzel began his service in the Metropolitan Police Department in 2007 as a patrol officer in the First District where he was selected by the First District commander to join the Power Shift Unit, which was formed with the purpose of combating rising street level violence with a major emphasis on robberies. In 2014, he was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Fourth District where he supervised patrol operations and served as acting PSA lieutenant and handled management level investigations to include Use of Force in the absence of the PSA lieutenant. Inspector Frenzel also served with CDU 41 as a squad supervisor during the events of the Presidential Inauguration of 2017. In 2018, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Fifth District where he served as Watch Commander and ensured the proper deployment and management of all Fifth District resources. He managed high priority crime scenes as the command official to include homicides, uses of force, and other high-profile incidents.
In 2019, Inspector Frenzel was promoted to captain and served in the Seventh and Second Districts where he oversaw the day-to-day community outreach efforts for his sector in both districts, including coordinating events with citizens and participating in community meetings. He also served as acting district commander of both the Seventh and Second Patrol Districts, responsible for the command of the district patrol operations as well as crime briefings with the Chief of Police. Inspector Frenzel, participated in and wrote the opinion package for multiple adverse action panels and completed numerous complex investigations including pursuit packages, use of force, and member misconduct. He led the fall 2019 Crime Initiative for Congress Heights in the Seventh District, in the highest overall combined crime reduction of all areas. Inspector Frenzel also led the Summer 2020 Crime Initiative for East Congress Heights resulting in the most gun recoveries during the initiative period as well as an overall reduction in violent and property crime. He served as field commander overseeing numerous complex incidents to include officer involved shootings, barricades, and civil disturbance incidents.
Inspector Frenzel has received numerous honors and awards during his career, including the Police Department Achievement Medal in 2011 and Centurion Arrest Honoree in 2009. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and served as an intern for Congress. Inspector Frenzel also worked on the American Stock Exchange for two years before joining the Metropolitan Police Department. His father was a retired NJ Transit Police captain, and his brother is currently a NJ Transit Police lieutenant. He is married with a son and daughter and lives in Southern Maryland.
